Job description
About the role
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is focused on eliminating fire ants, one of Australia’s most damaging invasive pests. This work helps protect homes, wildlife, industries, and the wider environment across Queensland.
As the GM Support Officer, you will provide senior-level, confidential administrative and secretarial assistance to the General Manager of Program Performance within Biosecurity Queensland’s National Fire Ant Eradication Program. The position is based in South Brisbane / Berrinba and supports the General Manager by keeping meetings, communications, and commitments well organised.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is proactive, highly organised, careful with detail, and comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
Key duties
You will be responsible for supporting the General Manager through diary coordination, inbox oversight, correspondence preparation, and a wide range of administrative tasks. The role also involves organising appointments, meetings, events, travel, accommodation, and related financial, purchasing, and office support activities.
You will maintain accurate and secure records, making sure all documents follow information management requirements, departmental standards, and style guidelines.
You will work with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the General Manager is fully supported and prepared for meetings and other engagements.
You will also contribute to team performance by helping improve work processes and supporting a positive, high-performing workplace culture.
What the team is looking for
The ideal candidate is motivated, organised, and able to handle a busy, changing environment. While no mandatory qualification or licence is required, success in this position will come from strong administrative capability, good judgement, and a willingness to learn.
You should bring strong planning and prioritisation skills, the ability to manage multiple demands, and confidence in meeting deadlines. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are also important, as is a high level of accuracy in diary management, email tracking, and document preparation.
The role may require you to exercise discretion and solve problems in situations where procedures are not clearly defined.
A positive attitude and commitment to supporting a productive team environment will be highly valued.
