Job description
About Emma
Emma is a global sleep company founded in 2015 and has become the largest direct-to-consumer sleep brand in the world. The business operates in more than 35 markets and has over 15 retail stores across Europe. Its products are designed to improve sleep comfort and help customers start each day at their best. Millions of people use Emma products, which are also endorsed by leading consumer organisations around the world.
The company is built around a diverse, international workforce. Emma places strong value on ownership, teamwork, and ongoing knowledge sharing. With employees from more than 70 nationalities, the team brings together different perspectives to learn, grow, and deliver long-term impact.
Role overview
The Global Product Lead will shape Emma’s category and product direction across online and offline channels. This leadership role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution across product management, physical product development, and organisational building. The position reports directly to the CEO and Co-founder, Dennis, and contributes to senior-level company decisions and broader business strategy.
Key responsibilities
You will own the full category and product agenda, including assortment structure, prioritisation, lifecycle decisions, and pricing approach. A major part of the role is to build and lead a high-performing product organisation, with 6 direct reports and around 65 team members spanning category management and product development.
You will create and drive a product strategy that supports Emma’s ambition to become the global leader in sleep across both digital and physical retail. The role also requires leading physical product development, including materials, manufacturing, supplier partnerships, and cost management.
Product decisions must be rooted in a strong understanding of consumer needs so that the business can improve satisfaction, brand preference, and word-of-mouth. You will also design a product architecture that supports global scale while allowing for important local differences.
At senior leadership level, you will act as a co-owner of the business agenda, bring a P&L mindset, protect margins, control complexity, and avoid unnecessary range expansion. In addition, you will establish operating processes and accountability structures that make the product organisation more predictable and effective, while building a strong bench of senior product leaders and supporting succession planning and capability growth.
Candidate profile
Emma is looking for someone with 12+ years of relevant experience, including 3-4 years in a senior leadership role managing other team leaders. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in category management, such as assortment strategy, range design, pricing logic, and portfolio choices.
Hands-on experience in physical product development is essential, especially in areas like materials, manufacturing, supplier management, and cost structure. The background should be in branded consumer goods with proprietary R&D, rather than retail-only or pure trading businesses.
The role suits a leader who is operationally strong and comfortable getting involved directly rather than only delegating. You should be able to make sound decisions under ambiguity and create clarity when stakeholders have competing views. Experience in large-scale, multi-market, multi-category organisations with 1,000+ employees is important, along with strong collaboration skills and the ability to use product as a lever for company-wide impact.
What Emma offers
This position gives you the chance to make a visible impact, own meaningful outcomes, and help drive significant change. You will have access to continuous learning through hands-on work, mentoring, formal training, and tools such as Learning Hub and Nilo.
Emma offers a collaborative environment with smart, motivated colleagues, regular team interaction, and opportunities to learn and contribute every day. You will work in a global setting with diverse perspectives across 4 offices and 70+ nationalities.
The role includes 25 vacation days per year, plus 1 additional day for each year worked up to a maximum of 30 days annually. The company also provides a flexible hybrid setup with up to 22 remote days per quarter and an office location in Gutleutviertel, Frankfurt.
Additional information
Emma is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds. Hiring is based on qualifications and fit, regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion or belief, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or age.
