Job description
Role summary
The National Research Council Canada is looking to engage one full-time labourer and trades helper through the Temporary Help Services program. This position supports day-to-day facility operations and maintenance at the NRC site in Saskatoon.
Contract details
- Expected start: around July 2, 2026
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 7.5 hours each day, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM including lunch
- Worksite: NRC Facility, 110 Gymnasium Place, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
What the role involves
This assignment focuses on general building support, preventative checks, minor repairs, inventory control, contractor assistance, and related operational tasks. The selected resource will help keep the facility running safely and efficiently while following all required procedures and standards.
Mandatory submission requirements
- An updated resume that clearly shows relevant experience and qualifications
- Copies of all required certificates
- Proof that the candidate meets the scope of work and tasks described in the NRC statement of work
Required qualifications
- Secondary school completion or an equivalent credential
- Current WHMIS certification
- Capability to work at heights when carrying out lighting checks and changing bulbs
- Ability to lift and transport furniture, office equipment, and maintenance supplies weighing up to 50 lbs safely
- At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance, facility operations, and safety compliance
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, basic plumbing fixes, and minor building maintenance or repair work
Preferred background
- Fall protection certification
- Lockout/tagout training
- Any other occupational health and safety certification relevant to the work
Relevant experience
- Performing lighting inspections and replacing bulbs
- Tracking electrical supplies such as ballasts
- Moving, assembling, and installing furniture and office fixtures
- Completing daily equipment checks, replacing HVAC filters, monitoring gauges, and recording operating data accurately
- Carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance tasks
- Making minor plumbing repairs
- Adjusting door hardware such as weather stripping, hinge lubrication, and tightening knobs
- Replacing ceiling tiles
- Supporting contractor oversight and coordinating site logistics
Security requirement
A valid Government of Canada Reliability Clearance is required.
Experience and scope
The candidate must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience performing duties similar to those listed above. The work supports NRC facilities through general maintenance, preventative inspections, small repairs, stock management, contractor coordination, and other operational support activities, with strict adherence to safety rules and procedures.
