GIS Team Lead

Overview

We are looking for a skilled GIS Team Lead / Senior GIS Engineer to oversee the design, maintenance, and enhancement of our ESRI GIS platform within a multi-server infrastructure. This role involves managing the entire GIS technical environment, ensuring high availability, robust performance, security measures, seamless integrations, and the delivery of GIS services to various business and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the GIS team during the deployment, operation, and support of enterprise GIS solutions.
• Offer expert technical guidance to GIS engineers, analysts, developers, and support personnel.
• Evaluate GIS system designs, configurations, and change requests to ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for GIS-related project activities and initiatives.
• Administer and maintain all components of the ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise environment including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, Web Adaptor, Data Store, ArcGIS Pro, and Desktop as needed.
• Manage GIS deployments spanning multiple servers across development, testing, staging, and production setups.
• Monitor system health, availability, performance metrics, and storage utilization to maintain optimal operations.
• Install, configure, update patches, perform upgrades, and troubleshoot ESRI software components effectively.
• Ensure system backup, disaster recovery readiness, and overall business continuity.
• Maintain GIS infrastructure on physical or virtualized servers and collaborate with IT for server provisioning, network setup, firewalls, DNS, certificates, and access controls.
• Implement high availability setups, load balancing, and multi-machine GIS deployments where necessary.
• Optimize system performance and reliability across all distributed GIS services.
• Manage enterprise geodatabases and GIS-related databases supporting SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle platforms.
• Ensure data integrity, consistency, version control, backups, and synchronization of GIS data.
• Support integrations between ESRI GIS systems and enterprise platforms such as SCADA, Asset Management systems, APIs, and other third-party applications.
• Publish and maintain diverse GIS services including map, feature, geoprocessing services, and web applications.
• Support GIS web solutions, dashboards, customized interfaces, and resolve application or integration issues as they arise.
• Enforce GIS security protocols including user role management, permissions, authentication, and secure publishing practices.
• Manage integration with enterprise identity services like Active Directory or Single Sign-On (SSO).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of hands-on GIS experience suitable for a team lead role.
• Proficiency in managing ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise environments operating on multiple servers.
• Extensive experience in GIS system administration, configuration, and issue resolution.
• Competence managing enterprise geodatabases and spatial data.
• Understanding of Windows Server management and enterprise infrastructure fundamentals.
• Experience working with IIS, Web Adaptors, SSL certificates, and web GIS publishing workflows.
• Strong skills in GIS service deployment, system performance tuning, and monitoring.
• Proven ability supporting system integration and enterprise application collaboration.
• Excellent skills in documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Holding ESRI technical certifications is highly desirable.
• Experience using ArcGIS Monitor, Image Server, or GeoEvent Server adds advantage.
• Knowledge of scripting or automation primarily with JavaScript.
• Familiarity with virtualization, cloud environments, backup solutions, and disaster recovery principles.
• Experience working on large-scale projects in government, utilities, infrastructure, smart city, or transportation sectors.
• Awareness of cybersecurity standards applicable to enterprise software environments.
