Job description
About the role
We are seeking a GIS Specialist for our Canterbury team. This position is focused on creating and supporting web-based geospatial solutions, transforming complex location data into practical tools for project teams, and enabling better on-the-ground decision-making. The work contributes to building useful digital products and improving how infrastructure delivery supports communities.
Role overview
The position sits across digital, project, and operational functions, with particular emphasis on web GIS, data accuracy, analysis, and solutions that work in real-world settings. You will work with a wide range of spatial information, including design models, imagery, survey data, and project inputs, to develop tools that help teams understand current conditions and next steps.
This role suits someone who enjoys solving practical problems, collaborating closely with others, and turning ideas into outcomes that are genuinely used.
Key responsibilities
- Create, configure, and maintain geospatial solutions within the ArcGIS environment, especially web mapping applications.
- Administer and update web maps, apps, and content in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Provide GIS support through data processing, spatial analysis, quality assurance, and interactive digital information outputs.
- Collect technical requirements, record business workflows, and contribute to geospatial solutions that meet project and organisational needs.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and encourage broader use of geospatial technology across the business.
- Look for ways to improve data flow, efficiency, and decision-making while keeping safety, quality, and environmental expectations in focus.
What we're looking for
- At least 3 years of experience building and deploying geospatial solutions with ArcGIS.
- Solid understanding of spatial workflows and the ability to implement them, ideally within the Esri ArcGIS ecosystem and Safe Software FME Form/Desktop and Flow/Server.
- Hands-on experience delivering web GIS, data processing, analysis, and quality checks in a business setting.
- A collaborative, confident approach with the ability to work well across both technical and non-technical groups.
- Strong planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage shifting priorities.
- A strong commitment to safety, quality, and doing work properly.
- Experience in infrastructure, construction, or a related industry would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with Autodesk AEC Collection, 12D, or similar digital engineering tools would be an advantage but is not essential.
Benefits
- Medical insurance and life insurance after the eligibility period.
- Employer KiwiSaver contributions after service milestones, up to 7%.
- Parental leave top-up payment, plus extra support when returning to work.
- Ongoing learning and development with clear opportunities for career growth.
- Discounts across a broad range of retailers.
