Job description
Overview
Twyford International Uganda Ltd. is inviting applications for the role of Geologist based in Kapeeka, Nakaseke District, Uganda. The role emphasizes mineral resource exploration, assessment, and sustainable extraction to support the company's manufacturing functions. The successful candidate will carry out geological fieldwork, data analysis, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform geological mapping, field studies, and sample collection to evaluate mineral deposits.
- Assess mineral resource quality, quantity, and distribution using geological data.
- Develop geological maps, cross-sectional views, and detailed reports.
- Assist and oversee drilling operations and sample logging.
- Provide geological input for mining operations to enhance extraction efficiency.
- Monitor ore grade and recommend suitable mining techniques.
- Collaborate with mining engineers to optimize pit design and resource extraction plans.
- Maintain grade control and manage mineral resources carefully.
- Track daily mining progress and offer technical assistance to operational teams.
- Ensure adherence to Uganda’s mining and environmental regulations during all geological activities.
- Engage in environmental impact assessments and assist rehabilitation planning efforts.
- Keep precise records of exploration and mining for regulatory compliance.
- Support government audits and inspections as required.
- Follow company health, safety, and environmental protocols diligently.
- Identify geological hazards and propose mitigation strategies.
- Promote and participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings.
- Coordinate closely with departments such as Mining, Quality, Production, and HSE.
- Communicate with government mining agencies when necessary.
- Mentor junior geologists and field assistants.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Sciences, Mining Geology, or related disciplines.
- Membership or eligibility for professional geological registration is a plus.
- Additional certifications in mining, GIS, or geological software tools are advantageous.
- Between 2 to 5 years’ experience in geological exploration, quarrying, mining, or raw material operations such as cement or ceramics.
- Experience with industrial minerals including limestone, clay, silica, feldspar, and granite is highly preferred.
- Prior exposure to quarry operations or manufacturing environments is beneficial.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in geological mapping and mineral resource evaluation.
- Understanding of mining extraction techniques and grade control processes.
- Proficiency in geological software like GIS, AutoCAD, Surpac, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, or QGIS.
- Ability to interpret drilling data and geological maps effectively.
- Knowledge of sample collection and laboratory testing procedures.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office suite.
