About the Role

The Cancer Genetics Program at Northwell Health Cancer Institute is seeking a Genetic Counseling Assistant/Clinical Research Assistant to join a dynamic and expanding clinical, research, and educational team. This position primarily operates from the Zuckerberg Cancer Center in Lake Success, NY, but requires travel 2-3 days per week to other Northwell Health Cancer Institute locations throughout the New York City metropolitan area. The candidate will collaborate closely with nine adult cancer genetic counselors, one administrator, and two administrative assistants within a multi-disciplinary team involving genetic counselors, physicians, administrators, and patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a streamlined genetic testing process for newly diagnosed cancer patients across Northwell Health.
  • Assist in triaging patients efficiently to ensure timely service.
  • Create and update detailed family pedigrees for clinical assessment.
  • Perform data analysis related to clinical genetics operations.
  • Prepare presentations as needed for academic and clinical purposes.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource and actively contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Candidate Requirements

  • Completed bachelor's degree in a science field such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or genetics.
  • Preference given to pre-health students, particularly those pursuing genetic counseling or medical career paths.
  • Relevant prior experience is strongly desirable.
  • A preferred commitment to remain in the role for two years to foster continuity and growth.

The salary range for this role is $39,290 to $59,800 annually, with actual compensation influenced by various factors including experience, education, credentials, and contractual agreements.
