Job description

About the Role

This position places you in charge of the daily running of a busy health club in Cork. You will direct teams across the gym, swimming pool, fitness areas, and reception/front-of-house functions, with responsibility for delivering strong service quality, safe operations, spotless standards, and a positive member experience.

The role also has a commercial focus, with accountability for supporting membership growth, improving team output, and keeping the club operating to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of all day-to-day club operations.
  • Guide, inspire, and develop staff across every department.
  • Oversee pool operations, including compliance requirements, water quality, plant room supervision, and safety controls.
  • Maintain full adherence to health and safety rules, operational standards, and risk procedures.
  • Support retention efforts, membership sales, and additional revenue streams.
  • Coordinate rosters, hiring, onboarding, staff training, and performance reviews.
  • Track budgets, manage expenditure, and work toward financial goals.
  • Ensure the facility remains clean, well-presented, and properly maintained.
  • Build positive relationships with members and resolve feedback in a professional manner.
  • Partner with senior leadership to deliver wider business plans and objectives.

Ideal Candidate

The right candidate will bring substantial leadership experience in a health club, leisure centre, hotel leisure environment, or a similar setting. Experience managing a site with a swimming pool and wet leisure areas is essential, along with a solid grasp of pool plant systems, safety rules, and compliance expectations.

You should have a proven record of leading teams, developing people, and improving commercial performance through sales and membership growth. Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities are important, as is a practical, hands-on style with a strong focus on customer service.

Qualifications related to leisure, fitness, pool operations, or management are considered an advantage.

What’s on Offer

  • A competitive salary package.
  • Performance-linked incentives.
  • Room for career advancement.
  • A supportive and professional workplace.
  • The opportunity to lead an established and expanding leisure business in Cork.
