Job description
Overview
Located in Auckland and reporting directly to the ANZ CEO, the General Manager will lead the strategic direction, growth, and operational performance of HelloFresh New Zealand, a pioneering and established market for the company. This leadership role entails full ownership of the New Zealand profit and loss, crafting and executing strategies to foster sustainable growth and maximize profitability. The role demands close collaboration with cross-functional teams including growth, product, marketing, finance, customer care, and operations to ensure unified execution of business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the New Zealand P&L by overseeing commercial and financial results, leading annual business planning, forecasting, and regular review sessions with ANZ and global leadership.
- Develop and implement strategies aimed at restoring sustainable growth and profitability through optimizing customer acquisition, retention, pricing, and margin management.
- Enhance the value proposition by working with global teams to pilot innovative products and tailor offerings to meet local tastes and preferences, ensuring relevance in the Kiwi market.
- Lead matrixed teams with influence rather than direct authority, fostering alignment and motivation across diverse departments to meet shared business targets.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson representing HelloFresh New Zealand with government bodies, regulatory agencies, industry associations, and key external partners.
- Contribute insights and innovations from the New Zealand market to regional and global strategic planning to support wider corporate goals.
Candidate Profile
- Proven leadership experience owning a P&L or major commercial function, preferably with exposure to top-tier consulting, fast-paced startups, or comparable high-growth environments.
- Strong commercial acumen and product intuition within direct-to-consumer marketing and product development, with the ability to translate strategy into solid business results.
- Skilled in influencing senior stakeholders and collaborating across complex organizational structures without direct reporting lines.
- A data-driven approach with strong analytical capabilities to inform prioritization and drive accountability.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly develop credibility within the New Zealand consumer market to ensure strategies are locally relevant.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, resilience, and passion for food aligned with HelloFresh's mission to redefine how consumers enjoy meals.
Benefits Offered
- Competitive compensation package including significant equity upside at a senior leadership level within a global food-technology company.
- Opportunity to lead and own the full market strategy and operational outcomes for HelloFresh in New Zealand.
- Hybrid work model with three days based in the Auckland office and two days remote per week.
- Flexible work policy allowing up to three weeks per year working from any chosen location.
- Wellness programs including free Headspace subscription (extendable to family and friends) and confidential Employee Assistance Program access.
- Structured learning and development opportunities through HelloFresh Academy, departmental L&D budgets, and mentorship programs.
- Additional paid time off increasing with tenure plus sabbatical leave options for long-serving employees.
- Substantial discounts on HelloFresh meal kits for employees and their friends and family.
