Role Overview
The General Manager for Medical Affairs will steer the medical affairs function at Ajanta Pharma in Mumbai, with a strong emphasis on medico-marketing enablement and close coordination between medical and marketing teams. The role is responsible for shaping medical communication assets, enabling training initiatives, and supporting the assessment of new products, while keeping work aligned with business priorities and applicable regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supply scientific references and evidence to support product positioning as well as research and development initiatives for new products.
- Work closely with the marketing team by offering timely medical inputs and strategic guidance for promotional activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Develop product manuals, monographs, and training presentations that clearly explain product features and value.
- Create and prepare CME presentations and related learning material to support continuing education efforts.
- Review new product concepts and presentations, and provide recommendations to marketing and business development teams.
- Lead medical training for field teams so they have a strong understanding of products and relevant therapeutic areas.
- Take part in clinical studies and use study inputs to strengthen medical affairs strategy.
- Assess competitor products and go-to-market approaches to inform company positioning and product planning.
- Track market movements, competitor actions, and new scientific developments to support strategic decision-making.
- Plan and oversee the medical affairs budget to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and relevant external stakeholders to support scientific engagement and brand trust.
Qualifications
- An advanced qualification in life sciences, specifically MBBS or MD.
- At least 15 years of experience in medical affairs or a closely related area, particularly involving marketing support and product assessment.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory expectations, clinical development processes, and the therapeutic areas relevant to the company’s portfolio.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong presentation and people-management abilities.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional setup, collaborate effectively, and influence stakeholders.
- Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills for reviewing data and supporting strategic choices.
- Preference for candidates familiar with building training programs and CME content.
