Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Impact, the General Manager will provide both strategic direction and operational leadership for hospitality and guest services at Camp Horizon, located in beautiful Kananaskis. This role focuses on maintaining operational excellence, ensuring financial health, regulatory compliance, and cultivating a safety-first culture.
The General Manager oversees accommodations, food and beverage, recreation, maintenance, and guest relations. Close collaboration with the Events Team and other colleagues across Alberta is essential to delivering outstanding guest experiences and organizational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive exceptional guest experiences across all operational areas.
- Uphold consistent hospitality and brand standards.
- Act on guest feedback to foster continuous service improvement.
- Promote a culture where every team member contributes to memorable experiences.
- Manage daily operations including accommodations, maintenance, recreation, and food & beverage.
- Ensure rigorous standards of cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and service delivery.
- Create and implement operational policies and procedures.
- Continuously monitor and enhance operational performance.
- Develop and oversee operating budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities to boost profitability and operational efficiency.
- Manage vendor relations and control expenditures.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop department leaders to foster an engaged and accountable workforce.
- Support employee development, succession planning, and performance management in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Expand recreation, camp, and educational programs while devising strategies to increase school and group bookings.
- Evaluate programs regularly to address evolving guest needs and market trends.
- Collaborate with Events, Sales, and Marketing to maximize occupancy and guest satisfaction.
- Build strong partnerships with tourism organizations, community stakeholders, and event planners.
- Encourage cross-regional teamwork among the Kananaskis, Calgary, Edmonton, and remote teams.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, accreditation standards, and company policies.
- Lead health, safety, food safety, emergency preparedness, and risk management efforts.
- Maintain operational standards while fostering continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Preferred: Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Tourism, or related fields.
- 7 to 10 years of progressive leadership experience within hospitality, hotel, resort, or multi-functional operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, oversee operations, enhance guest services, and lead large teams.
- Strong financial acumen and business planning expertise.
- Experience in operational excellence, compliance, accreditation, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Effective communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, food safety protocols, and risk management practices.
- Hands-on leadership approach paired with strategic foresight and operational know-how.

Working Environment
- Work is based onsite at Camp Horizon in Kananaskis.
- Requires regular movement throughout the property.
