Job description

About the Role

This position is for an experienced, business-minded General Manager to oversee the daily running of a busy catering operation. The role suits a confident leader who enjoys delivering excellent food and service while also improving commercial results and building strong teams.

You will be responsible for a team of around 10 staff members, with day-to-day support from an on-site Supervisor and Chef. Success in this role requires a balance of operational control, customer focus and commercial decision-making, along with a strong drive to improve performance and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and motivate a team of about 10 employees and help create a positive, high-performing working environment.
  • Support, coach and develop team members so they can grow and perform at their best.
  • Develop strong client partnerships and ensure service is delivered to a high standard, while responding quickly to client needs.
  • Own the commercial results of the site, with responsibility for sales growth, profitability and long-term business improvement.
  • Oversee financial controls, including budgets, gross profit, labour spend and overall cost management.
  • Spot opportunities for fresh ideas, products and initiatives that improve the customer experience and strengthen business outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with the on-site Supervisor and Chef to keep operations running smoothly each day.
  • Ensure food quality, service standards, presentation and compliance requirements remain consistently strong.
  • Track operational performance and use data and insights to support ongoing improvements.
  • Support the team through periods of change by keeping people engaged, informed and aligned to shared goals.

About You

The right candidate will bring hands-on leadership experience from catering, hospitality, food service or another fast-moving operational setting. You should be commercially aware, comfortable working with financial targets and confident in improving performance.

Strong people leadership is essential, along with a genuine interest in helping others develop. You’ll also need excellent attention to detail, the ability to build trusted client relationships and a practical, solution-oriented approach to challenges.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership experience in catering, hospitality, food service or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a clear record of improving financial performance.
  • Experience handling budgets, gross profit, labour costs and operational KPIs.
  • Excellent people management skills and a strong commitment to developing others.
  • High attention to detail and a consistent focus on quality standards.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills, especially with key clients.
  • A proactive mindset with the confidence to question existing methods and introduce better ideas.
  • Ability to influence, inspire and unite teams around common goals.
  • Strong organisational ability and the capacity to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.

What We Offer

  • The chance to lead a successful and expanding catering business.
  • Room to make a real impact and put new ideas into action.
  • A supportive leadership group and a collaborative workplace.
  • Opportunities to grow professionally and progress your career.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
