Core duties

• Carry out high dusting with a treated duster, working around the room in a counterclockwise direction and cleaning surfaces above shoulder level such as lights, door tops, vent areas, curtain tips, and ledges.
• Maintain the high duster by brushing it downward into the service cart after use.
• Use germicidal solutions for sanitizing and spot cleaning of lower surfaces including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
• Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the appropriate cleaning solution.
• Spot clean windows as needed.
• Clean bathrooms in the required sequence, including the areas above and below the sink, the toilet seat, the outside of the bowl, and the inside of the bowl with a Johnnie Mop and suitable germicidal solution.
• Inspect and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily as needed.
• Empty trash cans; if liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the can, and replace it with a clean liner.
• Dust mop or vacuum floors by starting at the back of the room and moving toward the exit, cleaning under furniture and in restrooms as required.
• Use the counter brush to clean the dust mophead and dispose of collected dirt in the service cart.
• Clean outdoor grounds several times throughout the day, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, spills, gum, benches, vending machines, lower window ledges, public glass, and parking lot litter.
• Perform public area cleaning by dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, keeping glass clean throughout the day, checking planters for cleanliness and bird waste, and removing cobwebs and debris from corners and edges.
• Maintain food court areas by cleaning and sanitizing tables, returning chairs under tables, removing spills, emptying trash cans, taking dirty trays to the wash area, washing trays with a tray power washer, and stacking clean trays for reuse.
• Sanitize floors using the appropriate germicidal solution, moving from the back of the room toward the exit while mopping under furniture and behind doors.
• Review completed work visually and mentally to ensure furniture is arranged correctly and issues are corrected before complaints arise.
• Complete daily cleaning of halls, lobby areas, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spots, and high-dusting tasks.
• Knock before entering occupied rooms, respond to customer questions politely, and refer issues to the appropriate person when needed.
• Report broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor.
• Work quietly, avoid unnecessary noise, stay in the assigned area unless redirected, and maintain a neat personal appearance at all times.
• Notify the supervisor if assigned work is not finished by the end of the shift.
• Carry out additional duties assigned by the supervisor or account manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto scrubbing, and floor buffing.

Qualifications and knowledge

• Understanding of basic janitorial operations, materials, equipment, and safe work practices.
• Familiarity with using both toxic and non-toxic chemicals in line with MSDS guidance.
• Ability to follow spoken and written directions accurately.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
• Capability to use powered and non-powered cleaning equipment.
• Ability to read cleaning instructions and warning labels on chemical products.
• Physical fitness for extended walking, standing, or sitting during the shift.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment, supplies, and trash weighing 1 to 30 lbs.
• Ability to push and pull with both hands and arms while exerting 5 to 35 lbs of force.
• Comfort with climbing stairs and ladders to clean upper areas and drapes.
• Ability to bend, twist, and balance at the waist, knees, and neck throughout the shift.
• Ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl when cleaning low areas or reaching supplies from lower shelves.
• Good hand use for reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, wiping, tool operation, and overhead cleaning tasks.
• Strong visual awareness, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to support safe and effective cleaning work.
