Job description

Role summary

This position is responsible for keeping assigned facilities clean, sanitary, and orderly while also handling other duties connected to the assigned area. The job is based in Dayton, OH and is an on-site full-time role.

Cleaning duties

The work includes routine cleaning tasks across buildings and public spaces, such as high dusting, spot cleaning, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor dusting, vacuuming, and floor sanitizing.

  • High dust surfaces above shoulder level, including light fixtures above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, using a treated high duster.
  • Sanitize lower surfaces such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans, and remove fingerprints and smudges from doors and walls.
  • Spot clean windows as needed.
  • Clean restroom areas in the correct sequence, including sinks, toilet seats, toilet exteriors, and the inside of the bowl with the proper germicidal solution and Johnnie Mop.
  • Check soap and paper dispensers daily and refill them when necessary.
  • Empty trash cans, remove liners when liquids are present, wipe containers clean, and replace liners.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors starting from the back of the room and working toward the exit, including areas under furniture and in restrooms.
  • Sanitize floors with the proper germicidal solution, mopping under furniture and behind doors while moving toward the exit.

Grounds and common-area upkeep

  • Clean and inspect outdoor areas several times during the day.
  • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans outside.
  • Pick up litter, cigarette butts, and debris from sidewalks, flower beds, curbs, and parking lots.
  • Spot clean sidewalk spills, remove gum with a scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, clean lower window ledges, and remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public-area glass as needed.
  • Keep planters clean and free from bird waste, both inside and outside.
  • Perform high dusting around window areas at least twice a week and check corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other debris.

Food court and public eating areas

  • Clean, sanitize, and clear tables.
  • Put chairs back under tables after cleaning.
  • Spot clean spills and empty trash containers.
  • Remove dirty trays, wash them with the tray power washer, and stack clean trays for reuse.
  • Maintain cleanliness in outdoor eating areas.

Customer service and inspection expectations

  • Knock before entering occupied rooms.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Answer questions helpfully or direct them to the appropriate person.
  • Report damaged or broken items to a supervisor.
  • Work quietly, keep noise to a minimum, and stay within the assigned area unless instructed otherwise.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance at all times.
  • If assigned work is not completed by the end of the shift, notify the supervisor.
  • Review each area after cleaning, visually verify furniture placement, and make corrections to prevent complaints or issues.

Additional duties

Other tasks may be assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager. These may include floor care work such as stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonnet cleaning, and auto scrubbing and buffing.

Qualifications and work expectations

The role requires a basic understanding of janitorial operations, standard cleaning materials and equipment, and safe work practices. The employee must be able to use both toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS guidance, follow oral and written instructions, communicate with coworkers and supervisors, read instructions and warning labels, and operate both powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.

This job also involves physical activity throughout the shift, including extended standing, walking, or sitting; lifting and carrying 1 to 30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash; pushing and pulling with both arms; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, and balancing; kneeling, crouching, and crawling; reaching overhead; and using hand tools and cleaning equipment. Good vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination are needed to perform cleaning and safety tasks effectively.
