Full-Time Sports & Social Instructor (30 hours)

About the Organisation

Lakers Sports and Social is a lively community organisation in Bray, County Wicklow, focused on improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities. The organisation supports 350 members and offers more than 70 sporting and social activities in a welcoming, inclusive setting. These programmes are designed to strengthen confidence, social connection, health, and fitness, while helping members take a more active role in their communities.

Alongside its staff team, Lakers relies on 140 volunteers who play an important part in delivering classes, assisting coaches and tutors, and supporting day-to-day operations.

Role Overview

Because of additional funding, Lakers is looking to add another Sports & Social Instructor to deliver practical, engaging, and inclusive sessions for members. The role supports both junior and adult members through a range of activities such as sport, arts and crafts, social skills, and cookery, depending on organisational needs.

Contract and Hours

This is a fixed-term position for 12 months. The post is funded for one year, and any continuation after that will depend on securing further funding. While the organisation will work to obtain more funding, renewal or extension of the contract is not guaranteed.

The working pattern is 30 hours per week and will include evenings and weekends.

Key Duties

• Work under the guidance of the Programme Manager.
• Partner with members to encourage active participation in their activities.
• Research, design, and develop sports and recreational programmes.
• Plan and lead weekly sessions.
• Offer support and advice to members, parents, and guardians.
• Support and guide volunteers and work experience students.
• Create and maintain a safe, professional, and positive learning atmosphere.
• Follow strong health and safety practices at all times.
• Help develop the curriculum and class schedule.

Experience and Skills

Applicants should have experience working with children or young people, computer literacy, and a genuine respect for diversity and individual differences. The ideal candidate will be flexible, responsible, mature, collaborative, confident working independently, and comfortable taking initiative. Strong interpersonal skills and an approachable, empathetic manner are also important.

Experience in training or tutoring, a clean driving licence, and experience supporting people with disabilities would be an advantage.
