The primary function is to identify, negotiate, and secure freight contracts with shippers, subsequently matching these with available carrier resources. Key daily activities involve utilizing load boards, engaging in outbound and inbound calls to both domestic and international contacts, and maintaining continuous communication with carriers and drivers. The position also requires diligent shipment tracking, proactive resolution of service disruptions, and ensuring punctual pickups and deliveries. Additionally, the Freight Broker will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, fostering enduring relationships with clients and carriers, and collaborating with internal dispatch and operations staff to optimize efficiency and financial outcomes.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess robust skills in freight brokerage, encompassing rate negotiation, load acquisition, and managing the complete brokerage lifecycle. Experience in customer service and account management is essential, demonstrating the capacity to cultivate and sustain professional, long-term client connections. Proficiency in dispatching, including coordinating with drivers, monitoring shipments, and addressing operational challenges, is also required. Prior experience within the freight or logistics sector, particularly in an asset-based trucking environment, is advantageous. Familiarity with international calls and comfort in communicating with a global clientele and partners is highly preferred. Strong verbal and written communication abilities, coupled with excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills, are necessary. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven atmosphere, manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and maintain a high level of accuracy is crucial. Basic computer literacy, including experience with transportation management systems (TMS), load boards, and standard office applications, is expected.
