About the Role
Complex is seeking a skilled Video Editor to join their vibrant Post Production team in New York City. This freelance opportunity requires creating engaging video edits across digital content types such as YouTube series, social media clips, sizzle reels, and brand-sponsored videos. Passion for innovative storytelling combined with expert proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop is essential to succeed in this fast-paced editorial role. This contract may be extended based on performance and organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete end-to-end video edits tailored for platforms including YouTube and social media channels.
- Deliver polished edits for various formats including extended news interviews, vertical short-form videos with motion graphics, and captivating branded sizzle reels.
- Employ advanced techniques like audio balancing, color grading, seamless transitions, and graphic integration utilizing Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Partner with producers to craft narrative styles consistent with Complex's editorial tone and culture.
- Handle and organize footage from multiple formats, frame rates, resolutions, and codecs.
- Maintain a systematic project workflow adhering to naming standards, media handling procedures, and archiving practices.
- Ensure optimal video exports that meet platform-specific technical requirements without compromising creative quality and editorial standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Between 4 and 8 years of experience producing digital-first video content, supported by a portfolio showcasing long interviews, vertical video series, and sizzle reels.
- Expert-level skills in Adobe Premiere Pro and strong abilities with Adobe After Effects.
- Keen sense for storytelling elements including pacing, rhythm, and visual presentation combined with technical accuracy.
- Experience juggling tight deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining creative output.
- Familiarity with third-party plugins such as Maxon, with additional interest in exploring AI tools for image creation considered advantageous.
- Comprehensive understanding of social media platforms and optimization techniques tailored to each.
- Passion for modern pop culture and an appreciation for Complex’s diverse areas of focus like music, fashion, sports, sneaker culture, internet trends, and entertainment.
- Strong communication skills and effectiveness within collaborative creative teams.
- Ability to work onsite full-time at the New York City office (five days per week).
