Mindrift is dedicated to linking experts with cutting-edge technology initiatives to advance AI development worldwide. The Tendem project focuses on creating robust conversational bots and seamless integrations with popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and Slack to support real-world applications.
Role Overview
As a freelance Chatbot Developer on the Tendem project, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing bots to facilitate functions like customer service, appointment scheduling, order processing, content delivery, moderation, and automatic notifications across multiple messaging services.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain bots for platforms including WhatsApp (Business or Cloud API), Telegram Bot API, Discord, Slack, and similar messaging services.
- Create conversational workflows including dialogue management and appropriate fallback mechanisms.
- Integrate large language model APIs (such as OpenAI or Anthropic) to enable natural language interactions where suitable.
- Connect chatbots with backend systems, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs like payment gateways and booking platforms.
- Manage platform specificities such as webhooks, rate limits, and message formats including interactive elements and templates.
- Continuously debug, optimize, and refactor bots to ensure accuracy, reliability, maintainability, and robust error handling.
- Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery solutions to maintain bot health in production environments.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience in backend development, automation, integration, or bot creation.
- Experience of at least one year building bots for major messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, or Slack.
- Proficiency in Python or Node.js for backend development.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth protocols, and asynchronous request processing.
- Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases to manage conversation states and user information.
- Familiarity with large language model APIs and prompt engineering considered a significant advantage.
- Understanding of platform-specific constraints such as message templates and approval processes.
- Experience with deployment and hosting environments including Docker, serverless technologies, VPS, or platform-as-a-service providers.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring high reliability with no silent failures or disrupted flows.
- Self-motivated with an ability to independently design and deploy fully functional bots.
- Verified portfolio showcasing previously developed chatbots.
- Upper-intermediate or higher proficiency in English (B2 or above) is essential.
Additional Information
The role requires roughly 10-20 weekly hours during active phases, subject to project demands, without any guaranteed minimum workload. Compensation for this project goes up to $60 per hour, depending on expertise and productivity. Rates may differ across other assignments on the platform.
