Role Overview
The Fraud Investigator is responsible for conducting detailed fraud investigations, performing enforcement reviews, and analyzing fraud patterns using data-driven tools. This role includes enhancing machine learning models with feedback, recommending improvements to fraud detection tools and processes, and assessing fraud risks associated with new product offerings. Responsibilities are carried out alongside routine weekly assignments under the supervision of the Manager of Marketplace Fraud Operations.
Working Arrangement
This is a full-time role that requires presence at Etsy's Brooklyn office one to two days per week, depending on the employee's proximity. Preference will be given to candidates within commuting distance. Compensation includes a salary range of $91,000 to $119,000 annually, equity options, performance bonuses, and comprehensive benefits supporting employees and their families.
Key Duties
- Perform in-depth investigations into complicated fraud incidents and patterns of chargebacks.
- Utilize SQL and data visualization tools like Looker to detect and report emerging fraud trends and insights.
- Provide expertise and feedback to aid the development of machine learning fraud detection models.
- Collaborate on launch assessments for new products to evaluate potential fraud exposures and develop risk controls.
- Create and support training programs and documentation to elevate the wider fraud operations team’s skills.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned, acknowledging that job requirements may evolve according to company needs or local legal standards.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of three years' experience in fraud prevention or risk management, preferably within e-commerce or marketplace environments.
- Proficient with SQL and knowledgeable in data visualization platforms such as Looker or Tableau for extracting actionable analysis.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities essential for tackling complex fraud investigations.
