About the Role

Vanguard's Global Risk & Security team seeks a Fraud Investigation & Prevention Analyst, Specialist to lead efforts in fraud detection, prevention, investigation, and response. This role focuses on protecting Vanguard, its clients, and employees by identifying emerging fraud risks, conducting thorough investigations, implementing mitigation strategies, and continuously improving fraud controls through intelligence-driven analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent fraud case investigations while managing a dynamic and high-volume caseload from discovery to resolution.
  • Identify fraud trends, assess emerging threats, and apply prevention strategies to enhance control measures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and deploy automated fraud detection tools and improve processes.
  • Maintain and review Global Fraud policies and procedures aligned with international fraud standards and recommend new policies when necessary.
  • Document case details meticulously and report trends to management for proactive fraud mitigation.
  • Support business units by providing advice on fraud prevention, detection, and response strategies.
  • Assist project teams by analyzing situations, proposing practical solutions, and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain internal and external networks to exchange actionable fraud intelligence protecting Vanguard’s people, information, and assets.
  • Contribute to department training, onboarding, and offer guidance and mentorship to global security and fraud teams about fraud controls and investigation best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in fraud investigation, prevention, financial crimes, AML/BSA, risk management, transaction monitoring, threat intelligence, or recovery-related fields, with preferably two years focused on direct fraud investigation/prevention.
  • Possess an undergraduate degree or an equivalent mix of training and experience.
  • Familiarity with banking, brokerage, wealth management, or financial services sectors.
  • Proficient in data analysis using Excel or similar reporting tools.
  • Strong independent judgment, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced workplace.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification is preferred. Candidates not yet certified must obtain the CFE credential within the first year of employment, with Vanguard sponsoring the process.
  • Availability to work onsite on a hybrid schedule (Tuesday through Thursday).
