Role Overview
Chartwells K12 is recruiting immediately for full-time and part-time Food Service Worker roles in the Lamar County School District, Hattiesburg, MS.
Work Location and Schedule
This position is based at Lamar County School District, 17 Pioneer Road East, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. The role is onsite, and online applications are the only method accepted. Schedules are available for both full-time and part-time staff, Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with additional details provided during the interview.
What You Will Do
The job centers on preparing, presenting, and serving food to customers. You will support the kitchen and service areas by handling prep tasks, maintaining cleanliness, and following food safety and service standards.
Key Duties
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables as part of food preparation.
- Measure and weigh ingredients accurately.
- Move pans, kettles, and trays between work areas, ovens, and refrigeration units while following safety guidelines.
- Store food in approved locations using proper wrapping, dating, rotation, and food safety practices.
- Clean work surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
- Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
- Use approved recipes and production standards to maintain quality, serving temperature, and portion control.
- Serve guests in a courteous and efficient manner using the prescribed service process.
- Handle customer issues and pass relevant updates to the supervisor.
- Follow company procedures for service standards, inventory, and cash control.
- Comply with sanitation and safety rules at all times.
- Take on other assigned tasks as needed.
Experience and Job Notes
Prior food service experience is preferred but not mandatory. There is a fixed pay rate of $12.00 per hour. No nights or weekends are required. The employer also offers an internal employee referral bonus. Because the work is in an educational setting, there may be school-break periods such as winter and summer breaks when work is not available; those unpaid periods may be treated as a temporary layoff. Depending on business needs, year-round work at a different location may be required during breaks. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Certain positions may require Florida Level 2 background screening. The workplace is drug-free.
