Job overview
This role sits within the Ministry of Defence Police environment at RNAD Coulport, G84 0PD, supporting the MFP Firearms Branch in the day-to-day upkeep and control of the MOD 50m indoor range. The work is carried out in line with DSA 03.OME Part 3 and supports the wider defence policing and security mission.
The post is based onsite and is advertised at 37 hours per week.
What you will do
- Look after the range and its equipment, including routine upkeep, non-technical servicing, and security of the facility and its assets.
- Act as the point of contact for range stores by ordering, keeping, issuing and safely storing items such as targets and hearing protection.
- Assemble and repair target screens and penetrable targets as needed.
- Keep the range and associated buildings clean and orderly in line with the risk assessment, including disposal of scrap brass.
- Arrange and oversee deep cleans, de-leading, and servicing of range equipment, including ventilation systems.
- Work with Clyde Firearms Branch to manage the range booking diary.
- Prepare the range to meet user needs and brief range users on targets, control systems and local procedures when required.
- Coordinate and support external unit range reconnaissance visits.
- Hand over the range to users and receive it back after use.
- Hold and issue the Range Orders when handing the range over to the RCO.
- Ensure the Range Log is completed correctly before and after use and record inspections, de-leading, deep cleaning, technical examinations, defects and damage.
- Keep the Range File up to date, including MOD Form 904, MOD Form 905, MOD 1057 and all relevant inspection, maintenance, risk assessment and cleaning records.
- Act as the health, safety and fire focal point for the building and make sure site and MDP procedures are followed.
- Maintain the H&S noticeboard, support fire checks, alarm tests, evacuation drills, six-monthly safety inspections and monthly first-aid kit audits.
- Carry out administrative tasks assigned by the line manager.
- Take on other duties of a similar grade when required.
Requirements and selection criteria
- You must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong organisational ability is essential.
- Experience working with or on ranges is desirable.
- You need to successfully pass police vetting before an offer can be made.
- Successful candidates must meet the required security checks, including a Security Check and criminal record check, and complete baseline personnel security standard checks where applicable.
- This role is not eligible for skilled worker visa sponsorship.
- You must be willing to declare outside interests if successful at interview, as these will be reviewed before a formal offer is made.
- Candidates should be prepared for pre-employment checks.

Additional information
No relocation expenses will be paid. Travel costs for interviews will not be reimbursed. External recruits joining the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period. The department is reviewing pay-related allowances, which may affect the allowances currently attached to this post.

Recruitment process
This selection process uses Success Profiles and will assess behaviours and experience. Applicants must submit CV details covering job history plus relevant skills and experience. Sift is scheduled to begin in WC 13/07/26, though this may change depending on the number of applications. Interviews are expected to take place at a location to be confirmed, likely Helensburgh.
