Key Duties

• Inspect the work zone before, during, and after each shift to identify ignition risks such as flammable liquids, vapors, or debris.
• Verify that every condition on the active Hot Work Permit is being followed without exception.
• Make sure fire blankets are positioned correctly and that no flammable material is kept within about 35 feet of the work area.
• Be fully aware of the locations of extinguishers, alarms, and hoses so they can be used immediately if needed.
• If a fire starts, attempt suppression only when it is small and safe to control; otherwise, raise the alarm and contact local emergency services at once.
• Stay on site for 30 to 60 minutes after hot work ends to confirm that no embers or smoldering material remain.
• Use stop-work authority when any activity becomes unsafe or presents a fire hazard.

Requirements

• 3 to 7 years of experience is required.
• Applicants should have working knowledge of hazardous areas and safe hot-work monitoring practices.
• Familiarity with HAZWOPER, HAZMAT operations, hazard communication, and hazardous materials handling is expected.
• Prior exposure to fire safety inspections, hazard identification, job hazard analysis, and fire safety training is needed.
