Position Overview

Jensen Hughes seeks to appoint a Fire Investigator based in Galway, Ireland. This technical role involves investigating the origins and causes of fires, explosions, and accidents on land and at sea. The investigator will gather and analyze evidence, write detailed reports, provide expert testimony in courts internationally, and collaborate with specialists to resolve complex cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit accident and fire scenes to document and collect evidence, and interview witnesses.
• Lead investigations into more complex fire and explosion incidents.
• Coordinate and communicate with expert representatives from other interested parties.
• Prepare detailed, precise, and technical reports consistently.
• Provide expert witness testimony as needed in legal proceedings.
• Use Jensen Hughes’ case management systems to log case activities according to service level agreements.
• Participate in joint examinations, drawing on specialist expertise when required.
• Continuously update technical knowledge through training, research, and review of scientific literature on fire and explosion investigations.
• Engage in marketing initiatives, including attending events and preparing articles or presentations.
• Represent Jensen Hughes at meetings and conferences as a company ambassador.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Candidates must hold relevant experience or qualifications in fire investigation, fire engineering, forensic science, or similar disciplines. Membership in professional bodies is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Strong analytical and systematic scientific approach to forensic examination of incident sites is necessary.
• Excellent communication skills for clear and accurate verbal and written presentation of information.
• Attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision, supported by a collaborative team network.
• Frequent travel across Ireland and the UK is required, often on short notice; some international travel may also occur. A valid driving license and ideally personal vehicle ownership are essential.
