Role overview
An international contemporary gallery in central and northwest London is seeking a Fine Art Technician for an immediate start. This position is ideal for someone with practical experience in the care, movement, installation, and upkeep of fine artworks. You will support the gallery team in making sure exhibitions and collections are displayed to an exceptional standard.
The role is hands-on and suits a person who is confident working with valuable pieces in a busy gallery or art logistics environment.
Key duties
- Fit artworks in place using appropriate methods for a variety of surfaces, taking care to achieve accurate and secure placement.
- Safely move, wrap, pack, and unpack artworks, including crates, for transit or storage.
- Keep artwork information up to date in the gallery database; training will be provided where needed.
- Inspect works for any signs of damage and report issues whether they occur in the gallery or while items are being transported.
- Help maintain the presentation of gallery spaces, including rehanging works when required.
- At times, support installations or deliveries at off-site locations.
- Remain adaptable for occasional weekend work or longer hours when the schedule demands it.
Experience and requirements
- Previous practical experience in fine art handling or technician work within galleries, museums, or art shipping settings.
- Proven ability to install, pack, and unpack artworks safely and carefully.
- Excellent focus on detail and strong organisational ability.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-moving, high-value setting.
- Dependable, proactive, and able to adjust to changing schedules and tasks.
- Experience with databases or stock control is beneficial.
- A full driving licence would be an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
- You must already have practical experience handling and installing artworks, including preparing, packing, unpacking, and managing crates.
