About the role
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is looking for a detail-oriented Financial Analyst II to join its Financial Strategy, Planning & Analysis team in Pasadena, California. This role is suited to someone who enjoys turning complex data into clear financial insight, working both on their own and with cross-functional partners to support decisions that affect the organization.
JPL operates from a campus setting spread across 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. The environment is designed to encourage innovation, collaboration, strong performance, and a sense of purpose.
What you will do
- Build and maintain financial models that support scenario forecasting and workforce planning.
- Prepare polished presentation materials for senior leaders and stakeholders, using charts, graphs, and other visuals to explain budgets and financial findings.
- Pull together, clean, reshape, and interpret complex financial data sets to evaluate organization-wide performance.
- Watch monthly reporting data for inconsistencies, investigate issues, and correct exceptions where needed.
- Work closely with teams across the organization to act as a dependable financial partner and advisor.
- Collaborate with senior analysts to improve processes and upgrade systems within the FSP&A function.
What JPL is looking for
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Business Management, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in a similar field with at least 1 year of experience; or a PhD.
- Hands-on knowledge of financial planning, budget development, data analysis, statistical methods, and information systems.
- Strong Excel capability at an intermediate to advanced level, along with working knowledge of SQL for querying, extracting, transforming, and manipulating data.
- Ability to independently build detailed financial reports, interpret results, and solve problems effectively.
- Comfort managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines in a fast-moving environment, and learning new technologies quickly.
- Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred background
- Exposure to AI-based productivity, analytics, or automation tools and the ability to judge where they can improve reporting, forecasting, data checks, and financial workflows.
- Experience with analysis and visualization tools such as Python, SAS, or Power BI.
- Basic familiarity with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical ability, and complex problem-solving skills.

Compensation
The annual hiring range for this Pasadena-based role is $84,448 to $100,880.
