As the company grows, it is developing a top-tier Finance division to aid in decision-making, performance tracking, and strategic development. This role operates from Cork with a hybrid working structure.
Role Summary
The Financial Accountant will collaborate closely with the Finance Manager to oversee daily finance operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This position is particularly suited for a newly qualified accountant aiming to gain comprehensive commercial finance experience including month-end management accounts, operational finance tasks, staff expenses, financial controls, and participation in finance projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily finance activities ensuring precise and prompt processing of financial transactions.
- Compile month-end management accounts including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, and analyze variances.
- Assist in preparing monthly reporting packages and provide commentary for senior management.
- Manage employee expense claims ensuring adherence to company policies and timely reimbursements.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and uphold robust financial controls throughout the company.
- Support cash flow monitoring, supplier payments, customer receipts, and general ledger maintenance.
- Collaborate with budget owners to comprehend cost structures, investigate deviations, and offer practical financial guidance.
- Contribute to year-end preparations, audit schedules, and statutory report filings.
- Participate in finance initiatives such as process optimization, system upgrades, and ad hoc financial analyses.
- Provide assistance to the broader finance team by taking ownership of assigned responsibilities within a growing business environment.
Qualifications and Skills
- Newly qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Knowledge of month-end closing procedures, management accounts, reconciliations, and financial controls.
- Experience from Big 4 firms or similar organizations is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable navigating finance software.
- Effective communicator capable of translating financial data for non-finance stakeholders.
- Organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple competing tasks.
- Commercially minded with eagerness to engage in operational finance and broader business projects.
