The role calls for strong numerical ability, advanced spreadsheet expertise, and the discipline to handle complex compensation rules with precision.
The successful candidate will work with sizable datasets, ensure every payout is accurate and transparent, and help strengthen governance through maker-checker controls. A sharp eye for detail and a methodical approach to reconciliation and validation are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual incentive, commission, and bonus calculations for different teams according to approved business rules.
- Handle detailed manual calculations and check payouts for correctness and policy compliance.
- Create, maintain, and enhance calculation templates, trackers, and supporting models.
- Match incentive outputs with operational and financial records to confirm accuracy.
- Review performance data and build reports that assist compensation decisions.
- Work with Finance, Operations, Sales, HR, and management to collect and verify the information needed for payout calculations.
- Look into mismatches and resolve issues in commission and incentive computations.
- Compile clear summaries and reports for leadership review.
- Ensure incentive payments are processed accurately and on schedule.
- Find ways to simplify and automate calculation workflows using advanced Excel techniques and reporting tools.
- Carry out maker and checker duties by preparing, reviewing, validating, and approving calculations in line with policy and approved pay structures.
- Independently audit calculations prepared by others and give final confirmation before payout release.
- Preserve strong controls and audit documentation for all incentive and commission activities to support transparency and accountability.
- Spot calculation issues, data inconsistencies, or discrepancies and work with the right stakeholders to fix them before approval.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- 2–5 years of experience in finance, compensation analysis, commission administration, payroll, MIS reporting, or a related analytical role.
- Advanced Excel capability, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, nested formulas, data validation, and reconciliation.
- Strong quantitative and analytical ability with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfort working with large datasets while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
- Prior exposure to maker-checker controls and financial reconciliation, validation, or approval workflows is preferred.
- Previous experience with incentive, commission, payroll, or compensation calculations is highly preferred.
- Experience in financial services, banking, insurance, mortgage brokerage, fintech, or sales-led organizations is preferred.
