Role overview

The business serves a wide range of sectors, including transportation, oil and gas, power, building, water, industrial, and mining. With 2024 revenue of $17 billion and a workforce of more than 30,000 employees and craft professionals across North America, Kiewit supports design-build work through coordinated multi-discipline teams that help improve schedules, monitor design progress, manage costs, and reduce risk.
In this role, you will act as the main finance and accounting contact for project-level matters. You will work closely with project and district leaders to provide clear insight into a project’s financial position, analyze construction job cost information, and produce reporting and analysis for management. The position also carries responsibility for project budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition, and the supervision, development, and training of project business staff.

Current opportunities may be located across the West Coast of Canada. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Burnaby district office, and travel to project sites in British Columbia and Alberta may be required.
Key responsibilities
- Run project forecast reviews, using historical results and trend information to confirm assumptions while following company standards for reporting cost and revenue.
- Support operations leaders by identifying financial risks and opportunities, assigning values to them, and communicating them clearly for decision-making.
- Oversee employee performance by defining responsibilities, setting expectations and goals, and delivering coaching and direct feedback during reviews.
- Prepare client invoices, manage accounts receivable and revenue activity, and review monthly cash flow projections for the project.
- Review prime contracts and change orders, including clauses related to insurance, taxes, payment terms, and labor regulations.
- Apply internal controls correctly and serve as the primary contact for internal or external financial audits.
- Promote ongoing improvement across the organization and help drive positive change.
- Build trust and alignment with the operations team to improve communication and support stronger collaboration.
- Develop a practical understanding of field operations so financial data and reports can be explained more effectively.
- Provide strong customer service with a helpful, professional, and positive approach when support is needed.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in financial or data analysis.
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Working knowledge of accounting functions such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and taxation.
- Advanced Excel ability, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and similar features.
- Experience using ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle to build forecasts and financial reports.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI for presenting complex analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with solid organization and interpersonal ability.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Willingness to travel or relocate when required.
Additional requirements
- Consistent and reliable attendance is expected.
- You must work efficiently and complete assignments on schedule.
- Professional communication and collaboration are required with supervisors, coworkers, and others, whether independently or in teams.
- All work must be performed safely and in line with verbal and written instructions, warning signs, equipment guidance, and company policies.
- Regular hours may be extended to include overtime and weekends as needed.
- The role may involve working at different sites and in varying conditions.
