Role overview
Thermo Fisher Scientific is looking for a Field Service Engineer III to support scientific research and innovation through hands-on service of advanced analytical and spectroscopy systems. In this role, you will deliver installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair support for sophisticated instruments used in research, university, and industrial environments. You will also work closely with customers, solve technical problems, and help users get the best performance from their equipment.
What you will do
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex analytical and spectroscopy equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and calibration work to keep systems operating reliably.
- Handle advanced hardware and software issues and work through difficult technical faults.
- Support customers on site and build strong professional relationships with them.
- Train customers and end users so they can operate equipment effectively and safely.
- Respond to urgent service needs when required.
- Work independently while staying aligned with the wider team.
What we are looking for
- An advanced degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on background in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analytical instruments.
- A qualification in electronics, physics, engineering, chemistry, or a similar technical discipline is preferred.
- Ongoing technical learning and certification are expected.
- Strong analytical ability and a practical approach to diagnosing problems.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to create positive customer interactions.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel 25% to 40% of the time.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating well with others.
- Readiness to support urgent customer requirements.
Work schedule and environment
This is a standard Monday to Friday role. The position is based in a laboratory setting and requires strict adherence to GMP and safety standards. Cleanroom rules apply, including no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, or facial hair where restricted. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, and ear plugs may be required. The work may involve handling hazardous or toxic materials.
