What You'll Do

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Journeyperson Electrician, Quality Control will provide essential quality leadership and technical expertise to the Projects Group. This role is crucial for ensuring all inspection and testing mandates are met in accordance with relevant regulatory standards, client specifications, and project requirements. The Journeyperson Electrician, Quality Control will also champion and uphold compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS), guaranteeing that established quality processes and procedures are consistently applied across all construction sites and client projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct all inspection and audit activities with minimal supervision.
  • Implement and manage Quality Control Systems and processes.
  • Thoroughly review and comprehend Contracts, Scopes of Work, and Engineered drawings.
  • Perform surveillance monitoring of project quality to ensure adherence to requirements.
  • Collaborate with client representatives and project teams to address quality-related issues.
  • Liaise with customer QC inspectors to resolve site-specific problems.
  • Support investigations and reporting for non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain high-voltage electrical systems and equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, switchgear, instrument transformers, and relays (13.8 kV to 500 kV).
  • Install structural steel and buried utilities necessary for substation construction.
  • Operate construction equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, manlifts, and telehandlers (zoom booms).
  • Lead the planning and installation of ground grids, power system equipment assembly, cabling, and wiring.
  • Execute and oversee the inspection and testing of substation electrical equipment, ensuring all test and maintenance documentation is accurate and current.
  • Perform substation equipment maintenance according to company and industry standards.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, and training to Electrician Apprentices, promoting safe and high-quality work practices.
  • Champion and ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations, including safe work practices near energized equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.'s Health and Safety Manual and all applicable safety legislation.
Additional Information

This role is designated as safety-sensitive. Employment is conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, as well as criminal and general background checks.

Schedule
  • Work rotations may vary, including 4 days on / 3 days off, 8 days on / 6 days off, or 6 days on / 1 day off.
  • Standard workdays are 10 hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Overtime is compensated at time and a half for hours exceeding 10 per day and 40 per week.
  • Out-of-town assignments include either all-inclusive camp accommodations or a Living Out Allowance (LOA) with individual accommodations, depending on the project.
Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Possession of a valid, recognized Journeyperson Electrician Certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Electrician, with at least 2 years specifically in substation environments.
  • A strong grasp of substation construction, commissioning, testing, and quality control methodologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Electrical Utility Code (E.U.C.), Safety Codes Act, and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
  • The ability to accurately read, interpret, and understand construction drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Prior experience conducting inspections, quality audits, and documentation reviews on utility or industrial projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with experience managing project documentation and quality records; experience with project document management systems is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with high-voltage electrical systems and utility infrastructure is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience with Microsoft Windows and computer-based testing equipment is beneficial.
  • Experience utilizing Bluebeam software is highly desirable.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, enabling collaboration with diverse project stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet stringent deadlines.
  • A demonstrated commitment to environmental, health, and safety standards, coupled with a robust safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements.
  • Comfort working at heights and in close proximity to energized electrical equipment.
  • Willingness and capacity to travel, including working out of town and at remote project sites.
  • Ability to work effectively in adverse weather conditions and varying site environments.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a dedication to fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace.
