Job description

About GiveDirectly

GiveDirectly has moved more than $1B in cash to over 2 million people living in poverty across 15 countries since 2011. The organization sees direct cash assistance as a highly scalable, cost-effective, and dignified form of support, backed by research. Its work has been featured by major outlets and recognized by Time100 as one of the most influential companies of 2026.

The workplace culture is direct, analytical, and flat in structure, with a strong emphasis on ownership and meaningful career development.

Role summary

The Field Officer for Internal Audit will support the daily delivery of GiveDirectly’s cash transfer program by checking recipient survey work and the related processes that power the organization’s transfer model. This position is centered on sound judgment, operational problem-solving, clear communication, and commitment to the mission. A major part of the role involves auditing the enrolment team, which is responsible for household surveys and participant enrollment.

Key responsibilities

In this field-based role, you will work directly with recipients and local stakeholders to evaluate program execution and strengthen field quality. Your work will include checking whether field processes are being followed correctly, reviewing data quality against established standards, identifying inconsistencies, and highlighting risks in the community. You will also look for signs of fraud or bribery involving staff or recipients, and gather feedback from local stakeholders on how the program is perceived in the community.

Desired profile

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and has at least 2 years of related experience, preferably in work with underserved or vulnerable communities. Experience in monitoring and evaluation, especially auditing surveys and operational workflows, is important. The role also requires fluency in Kinyarwanda, strong written and verbal communication, comfort using computers and mobile data collection tools, sharp analytical thinking, and the ability to solve problems with accuracy and sound judgment.

You should be well organized, dependable, and able to manage several priorities at once. Integrity, professionalism, accountability, empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to build trust with recipients, colleagues, and external stakeholders. The job may involve challenging terrain and weather conditions, and you must be able to represent the organization effectively in the field.

Equal opportunity and safeguarding

GiveDirectly is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants without discrimination based on protected characteristics under applicable law. The organization also follows strict safeguarding practices, including reference verification, possible criminal background checks, and sanctions screening, to protect recipients, staff, and partners. It maintains a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, exploitation, and misconduct, and expects all staff to uphold recipient protection as a top priority.

Accessibility and accommodations

The organization is committed to an inclusive workplace and will support reasonable accommodations during the application process, interview stages, or while performing essential job duties. Candidates who need accommodations can request support through the provided careers contact email with the subject line indicating that accommodation is needed.
