Stage 3 Separation develops premium solids control equipment for mud systems, helping customers manage solids efficiently, lower operating costs, and support limited or zero-discharge solutions where needed. Position overview
As the Field Leader for Solids Control in Canada, you will serve as the primary on-site authority for solids control field operations. You will set the standard for safe, efficient, and high-quality execution for both the company and the operator, while coaching technicians and contractors and making sure HSE expectations, company procedures, and site rules are consistently followed.
In this leadership role, you will guide field teams, keep operations running smoothly across day and night shifts, and act as a key connection point between the job site and the Area Manager.
What you will do
- Lead, train, and support solids control field crews through direct supervision and performance oversight.
- Manage daily field activity across day and night operations with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and productivity.
- Work closely with fellow field leaders, technicians, and trainees to deliver consistent service quality.
- Take responsibility for all solids control work in the assigned job site area and maintain readiness at all times.
- Provide regular updates and operational insight to the Area Manager.
- Carry out standard rig-up and rig-down procedures while coaching team members at every level.
- Supervise crews operating and maintaining equipment such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps.
- Oversee solids control services including air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water, fluid transfers, target low-gravity solids, and cuttings drying/invert recovery.
- Apply strong environmental knowledge, including Environmental Services work in construction and utilities.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues using knowledge of current, voltage, circuits, and power.
- Understand drilling fluid properties and perform related analysis, including weight, funnel viscosity, and retort analysis.
- Monitor and, when needed, perform routine maintenance and basic electrical service on equipment.
- Coach technicians on safe movement of cuttings from pits to trailers using heavy equipment.
- Complete mentor certification and handle a range of personnel situations appropriately.
- Perform site audits, review daily PJRA/JSA documents, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists.
- Enforce PPE and FR clothing requirements for all site staff.
- Support clean, organized job sites and employee housing.
- Make required equipment pick-ups and deliveries, as needed.
- Assist with grocery runs for technicians when required.
- Work in the shop on crossover days or whenever directed.
- Send weekly staff activity and concern summaries to Area Managers.
Schedule and travel expectations
- Be available for either a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation or a 20 days on / 11 days off rotation, depending on basin assignments.
- Work 12-hour shifts, with overtime when needed.
- Cover day, night, and possibly swing shifts while supervising up to 10 technicians.
- Travel to remote work locations using a company vehicle.
- Be assigned to one site or multiple sites depending on business needs.
- Remain away from home for 14 days or longer during scheduled rotations.
- Move between job sites as needed to oversee operations and staff.
- Share living accommodations professionally and keep quarters tidy.

Credentials and experience
- A minimum of 36 months of verifiable solids control experience is required to move into this leadership role.
- At least 3 years of solids control field operations experience is required.
- More than 1 year of experience supervising and directing field staff is required.
- Hands-on supervision during rig-up and rig-down is expected, with a focus on safe execution.
- Previous experience or certification operating a forklift, excavator, skid steer, or wheel loader is required; recertification training will be provided before work begins.
- Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, are required.
- A valid driver’s license, active insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required for the company’s insurer.
- Company vehicle use must comply with the company vehicle policy and be maintained in professional condition.
- Preferred education includes a high school diploma or GED, and an associate degree or technical diploma in technology, electronics, mechanics, or a related field.
Certifications and safety expectations
- Carry required safety certifications, which may include H2S, CPR/First Aid, confined space, and any customer-specific certifications.
- Ensure that assigned technicians hold the correct certifications for each job location.
- Follow all safety protocols and model safe behavior at all times.
