Job description
Role overview
This is a varied, practical farm position centred on fencing, property upkeep, and occasional livestock tasks. You’ll be part of a close team and will help keep the station operating efficiently through a mix of hands-on maintenance, tractor operation, fencing work, and stockyard duties when needed.
About the employer
Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a state-owned agricultural enterprise with a nationwide network of more than 110 farms. Its purpose is to deliver forward-thinking, sustainable farming solutions for future generations.
The farm
Wharekopae Station covers 2,120 effective hectares and carries around 22,000 su. The property is primarily focused on breeding and finishing cattle and sheep, including stock sourced from nearby Pāmu farms. It operates across two separate blocks of approximately 1,000 hectares each, creating a distinctive environment to showcase strong farming practice.
What you’ll do
Your day-to-day work will include fencing projects, repairs, general maintenance, and tractor work. At times, you’ll also assist in the yards with livestock handling. The role is mainly focused on fencing and farm maintenance, but flexibility to help across the farm is important.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone with previous experience in fencing and/or repairs and maintenance. A background with stock is helpful, but not essential. More important is a practical attitude, a willingness to learn, and the confidence to get involved in the work as part of the team.
Skills and attributes
You should be able to plan and lead daily farm tasks, work safely, and contribute positively to a team environment. A current full New Zealand driver’s licence is required, along with a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental standards.
Benefits
The package includes a competitive salary, health and life insurance, enhanced parental leave, up to 4% KiwiSaver employer matching, an extra day of leave at Christmas, ongoing training and development, and accommodation provided with the role.
Additional information
This position is based about 50 minutes from Gisborne. Applications are being reviewed as they arrive, and interviews may be arranged before the closing date.
Eligibility and checks
Applicants must be able to attend an in-person interview and have unrestricted legal permission to work in New Zealand. Candidates on temporary work visas are not eligible for this permanent opportunity. The successful applicant will need to complete a drug and alcohol test and pass a criminal background check before starting.
Application details
Applications close at midnight on Sunday 28 June 2026. For further information about the position, contact Deane James at jamesd@landcorp.co.nz.
Values
The organisation’s values are Grounded, Genuine, Bold, and Shoulder-to-Shoulder. It also highlights a supportive and inclusive culture, and encourages applicants to apply even if they do not meet every listed requirement.
Employment notes
This is a permanent full-time on-site role. Successful candidates will be employed by Landcorp Farming Limited, which uses Pāmu as its brand name.
