Job description

About Ananse Africa

Ananse is building Africa’s first connected fashion hub network, designed as a lively environment where makers, designers, and creative professionals can learn, produce, and scale. With locations in Johannesburg, Lagos, and Accra, these purpose-built spaces give African fashion entrepreneurs access to advanced training, professional studio facilities, sample development support, equipment rental, and industrial-grade production tools.

The business serves as a single destination for fashion innovation, combining masterclasses, production services, and creative studio spaces to help entrepreneurs bring their ideas to market.

Role Overview

The Fashion Photographer and Sales Assistant will combine creative image-making with customer-facing sales support. The position is responsible for producing polished fashion photography while also helping generate bookings, promote studio offerings, and support clients in presenting and selling their work. The role suits someone who is creative, commercially aware, passionate about fashion and photography, and confident in working directly with clients.

Photography Responsibilities

  • Carry out professional fashion photo sessions for designers, small businesses, and creative clients.
  • Produce product, lookbook, ecommerce, and editorial-style visuals tailored to client requirements.
  • Work closely with stylists, models, and creative partners to achieve high-quality results.
  • Manage lighting, framing, and editing to ensure consistently strong output across projects.
  • Look after studio photography gear and keep equipment ready for use.

Sales Support Responsibilities

  • Actively present studio photography services to walk-in visitors, SMEs, and fashion entrepreneurs.
  • Support business-to-business sales by promoting ecommerce-oriented shoots to SMEs looking to sell online.
  • Recommend and upsell related services such as styling, podcast recording, and content creation bundles.
  • Monitor leads, inquiries, and conversions, and share accurate updates with the Studio Commercial Lead.

Client Service and Administration

  • Welcome clients professionally and ensure they have a positive studio experience.
  • Handle bookings, maintain client records, and track payments.
  • Provide front-desk support during shoots, events, and meetings with clients.
  • Coordinate with creative and technical teams so that client sessions run smoothly.
  • Assist with routine studio admin tasks, including supplies, equipment inspections, and general facility care.

Requirements

  • A Degree or Diploma in Business Photography, Multimedia, Marketing, or a similar discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in fashion photography, supported by a strong portfolio.
  • Background in reception, sales, or customer service work.
  • Prior experience in a commercial studio setting will be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a customer-first approach.
  • Experience selling or upselling services, preferably in creative, retail, or hospitality environments.
  • Strong planning, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work efficiently in a busy setting.
  • Basic familiarity with photography, fashion, or creative services is helpful.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and/or booking systems.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when needed.

Key Attributes

  • Polished, friendly, and self-assured in client-facing situations.
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to spot sales opportunities.
  • Collaborative and effective when working with creative and technical colleagues.
  • Dependable, proactive, and willing to take initiative.
