Job description

About MÙMA World

MÙMA World is an Australian fashion label inspired by global influences, built on a heritage of personal style, and rooted in a lasting sense of beauty. Established by Saskia Wotton and named in honour of her grandmother, the brand sees considered dressing as something intimate and expressive. Its collections draw from art, location, and the natural environment, producing bold, maximalist prints and memorable silhouettes that are meant to be noticed and remembered.

The brand makes limited-edition pieces using certified natural fabrics, with a focus on intention, durability, and quality. The team values thoughtful design for people who care about both creativity and sustainability.

The business has a core focus on growing its e-commerce presence.

The role

Design is where MÙMA's point of view becomes tangible. In this position, every print, silhouette, and finished garment begins with your work. This is a hands-on design role, partnering closely with the Creative Director/Founder through the complete design journey, from early concepting through to final sample.

You will turn creative direction into product with strong technical discipline, staying involved in fabrication, construction, and communication with factories throughout the process. This is a 6-month contract for 4 days per week, with the possibility of extension, and it is based onsite in Sydney. The role requires a high level of ownership from the start; work is followed through from sample stage to production rather than being handed off early.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the full design cycle for seasonal ranges, including research, idea development, sketching, fabric selection, fittings, and final sign-off.
  • Contribute to MÙMA's signature product areas, including print, silhouette, drape, and essential separates.
  • Work closely with the Creative Director/Founder to preserve brand vision and ensure consistency across the product range.
  • Prepare detailed technical handovers for sampling, including accurate information on construction and finishing.
  • Coordinate sample movements between agents and suppliers.
  • Deal directly with factories regarding production, sampling, and fit-related questions.
  • Assist with fittings, keeping close attention to shape, proportion, and overall fit, and collaborate with PD/patternmaking to solve issues.
  • Assess samples and give clear, practical feedback for development.
  • Research and develop materials that align with the brand's workmanship standards, sustainability values, and margin targets.
  • Work with Merchandising on product selection and sell-through insights to support a balanced creative and commercial outcome.
  • Complete all tasks within the critical path and wholesale calendar timelines.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in fashion design, preferably in premium or designer womenswear.
  • Direct experience communicating with factories on production matters.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator, with fast and accurate CAD work.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction basics.
  • Ability to sketch by hand confidently and explain ideas quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with good follow-through and time management.
  • Self-directed work style and the ability to identify and take action on what needs to be done.
  • Draping experience is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience at a premium or designer fashion label is highly regarded.
  • Interest in sustainable and ethically sourced manufacturing is highly valued.

Application

Applicants should email a CV and a short cover note to emma@muma.world with the subject line: Fashion Designer - [Your Name].

The cover note should outline your design background, the companies you have worked for, and any notable achievements such as fashion week work, exclusive collaborations, or other standout projects. The brand also wants to hear about your experience working on collection briefs with a Creative Director and collaborating on print and colour with a Print Designer. Two paragraphs is sufficient.

Additional information

This is a 6-month contract role, based onsite in Sydney, with a 4-day working week and the option to extend.
