About FamilySearch and The Role
FamilySearch is dedicated to helping individuals connect with their ancestral heritage, fostering meaningful family ties that last for eternity through sacred covenants. The platform serves a broad audience including Church members and the general public, assisting in preserving family memories and facilitating ordinance work for deceased ancestors. This position, Writing and Communications Specialist, involves creating compelling content across various channels such as web, social media, email, blogs, PR, and campaigns to engage and inspire diverse audiences worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement messaging strategies that effectively reflect FamilySearch's mission, moving audiences from casual interest to meaningful engagement across digital platforms.
- Lead the creation of copy for top-of-funnel communications and RootsTech, including promotional materials, event registration, on-site content, and follow-up communications.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and engagement teams to ensure UX writing complements the overall user journey and brand message.
- Manage projects from concept through approval to publication, maintaining oversight throughout the creative process.
- Work cross-functionally with marketing, brand management, product teams, and designers to produce cohesive and brand-aligned copy.
- Apply SEO and AI-driven content optimization principles to enhance content visibility and performance.
Required Qualifications
- Multiple years of experience in marketing and engagement copywriting across different media, preferably with nonprofit, advocacy, or agency backgrounds.
- Ability to craft persuasive and targeted copy adapted to various formats and audiences.
- Experience in creating messaging frameworks to maintain consistency and brand alignment.
- Competency in translating complex data and concepts into clear, impactful communication for leadership and external stakeholders.
- Global awareness in writing that naturally adapts to diverse cultures and languages.
- Proficiency in managing creative projects through structured review and governance to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all organizational levels.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook, OneNote).
- Commitment to uphold Family History Department’s and FamilySearch’s standards of quality, including inspiration, trust, kindness, effectiveness, simplicity, and brand consistency.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with AI optimization and generative engine optimization to maximize content discoverability through AI search technologies.
- Background in UX writing considering the entire user experience and journey.
- Practical knowledge of on-page SEO tactics.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted writing tools and the editorial discernment to enhance AI-generated content.
- Experience writing for diverse global audiences and cultures.
- Usage of content optimization, analytics, work management platforms, or content management systems.
Additional Information
