Job description
Overview
MSWA is looking for an experienced Facilities Works Officer to help ensure its buildings and operational spaces remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. This role is very hands-on and suits someone who enjoys practical delivery, from initial scoping through to final handover.
The position focuses on managing the development, construction and upkeep of facilities so that works are completed to the right quality, within approved budgets and agreed timeframes, and in line with maintenance best practice.
You will coordinate small to mid-sized capital works and maintenance projects, working with contractors, consultants and internal teams across the full project lifecycle.
A strong focus of the role is continuous improvement: spotting inefficiencies, updating outdated processes and recommending better ways of working to improve overall operational performance.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, scope, source and oversee facility maintenance activities and capital construction projects.
- Coordinate and monitor contractors and subcontractors, including compliance, documentation and service performance.
- Develop cost estimates and provide input on project budgeting, sustainability and financial planning.
- Assist with annual planning for capital works and maintenance spend.
- Arrange quotations and manage tender-based work in accordance with procurement processes.
- Keep detailed and accurate records for project progress, costs, quality, timeframes and forecasts.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders from project start-up through to completion and handover.
- Make sure all works meet WHS requirements, relevant construction standards and organisational policies.
- Review existing processes, identify gaps or inefficiencies and recommend modern improvements.
- Help maintain a safe environment for staff, contractors and visitors.
Requirements
- A qualification in construction, building, facilities management or a related area.
- At least 7 years of experience in facilities or construction settings.
- Well-developed experience in procurement, project administration and contractor oversight.
- Good understanding of WHS obligations and risk management in construction environments.
- Current manual C class driver’s licence.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Why this role could suit you
This position offers the chance to contribute to services that support people across Western Australia to live more independently and with greater possibility. The facilities team plays an important part in maintaining environments that are safe, effective and ready for the future.
