Role overview
UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology is hiring an experienced Facilities Support Officer to join its Bangor, North Wales team. This position plays an important part in keeping a multi-site workplace safe, efficient, and welcoming for staff and visitors. The role blends practical facilities work with administrative coordination and serves as a key contact point for workplace matters across the organisation.

Employment details
This is a permanent position based onsite in Bangor, Wales. Full-time and part-time working arrangements are available. The salary offered is £31,942 to £33,898.

Key duties
You will support daily workplace operations, help coordinate contractors and maintenance activity, manage compliance records, and assist with site administration. The role also includes acting as a local lead for workplace support and stepping in across services where needed.
Workplace operations and team support
- Provide practical workplace assistance such as room layouts, office moves, deliveries, waste handling, and general site logistics.
- Act as the on-site workplace contact and help organise day-to-day activity, offering guidance and cover for colleagues when needed.
- Keep the site clean, safe, and well-presented through a proactive approach to housekeeping and standards.
- Support reception and front-of-house duties when required.
- Help create a positive, service-oriented environment for colleagues and visitors.
Contractor, maintenance, and asset coordination
- Oversee contractors and ensure work follows permits, risk assessments, method statements, and safe working practices.
- Support planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, including initial response to faults.
- Work with internal teams and external providers to make sure jobs are completed to the expected quality and timescale.
- Assist with keeping asset information, site records, and maintenance data up to date.
- Contribute to small works, maintenance improvements, and longer-term site development tasks.
Compliance, administration, and assurance
- Complete workplace inspections and statutory compliance checks, including areas such as fire safety, water hygiene, and emergency systems.
- Identify, record, and follow up defects, hazards, and compliance issues promptly.
- Manage service requests, bookings, and helpdesk activity with accurate tracking through to closure.
- Keep clear records of inspections, contractor activity, and compliance documents.
- Support audits, reporting, and administrative processes in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Candidate profile
The organisation is looking for someone who is practical, organised, and confident working with contractors and service providers. You should be able to solve operational issues hands-on, communicate clearly, and bring a customer-focused approach to workplace support. A willingness to learn health and safety compliance requirements is important.
