Overview
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking experienced Facilities Supervisors to join their team at Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. This role involves overseeing a range of facilities services including cleaning, ward catering, portering, security, and grounds maintenance to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming healthcare environment. There are two part-time positions available with distinct working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire facilities teams to deliver top-quality services across multiple departments.
- Develop and adjust staff rotas to effectively meet operational demands.
- Conduct regular visits to wards and departments, coordinating with clinical teams to maintain high standards.
- Monitor service performance through audits and take prompt corrective actions.
- Support staff development via training, supervision, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to Health Board policies, infection control, COSHH, health and safety, and food hygiene regulations.
- Handle day-to-day issues by reporting or escalating service defects and failures.
- Assist with stock management, kitchen temperature checks, waste control, linen distribution, and coordination of bed space cleaning.

Qualifications and Knowledge
- Essential: NVQ Level 3 supervisory qualification or equivalent.
- Essential: Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety certification.
- Basic Health & Safety Certificate.
- Knowledge of cleaning, catering, and portering service procedures and equipment.
- Familiarity with COSHH regulations, HACCP policies, and health and safety standards.
- Customer service and manual handling certification.
- Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning or Catering Services, Food Hygiene Level 3, Food Allergen Awareness, Health & Safety Certificate, ECDL IT qualification, understanding of NHS cleaning and nutrition standards.
Experience
- Proven experience in cleaning and catering industries.
- Capacity to train and motivate staff effectively.
- Competence in managing unexpected workload demands and deadlines.
- Experience with conducting audits and risk assessments is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical gases and waste disposal is advantageous.
Skills and Attributes
- Ability to collaborate positively with management and team leaders.

The salary corresponds to NHS Agenda for Change Band 3, with adjustments effective from April 2026 and implemented in August 2026.
Working Hours
- Post 1: 20.5 hours per week, shifts vary between 06:30 and 15:00 across a 3-shift, 4-week rota.
- Post 2: 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 20:00.
