About the Role

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will play a vital role in upholding the integrity and efficiency of critical facility infrastructure while adhering to quality and safety norms. You will collaborate with diverse teams to ensure smooth daily operations and lead initiatives aimed at facility enhancement. This position involves managing vendor relations, handling documentation, and supporting emergency responses, all within a regulatory and GMP-compliant framework.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee essential facility infrastructure and equipment, ensuring compliance with quality and safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate daily operations and maintenance tasks to optimize facility performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement strategies to enhance facility systems and processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and maintain comprehensive facility documentation.
  • Supervise performance of building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and specialized laboratory or production equipment.
  • Assist in emergency response efforts and prepare for audits, maintaining adherence to GMP standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in facilities management or engineering in regulated settings; alternatively, diploma or tertiary education with five years of related facilities or engineering management experience.
  • Preferred academic backgrounds include Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related disciplines.
  • Technical certifications related to building systems, GMP, or facilities management are advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems including clean utilities, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience with GMP/GxP standards and quality management systems.
  • Proficiency using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated abilities in project management, stakeholder engagement, and vendor coordination.
  • Capability to interpret technical blueprints, specifications, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours and participate in on-call duties.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and work under diverse environmental conditions.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Readiness to respond promptly to facility emergencies.
  • Strong dedication to safety protocols and environmental compliance.

Work Environment and Schedule

The role functions on a standard Monday to Friday schedule. The work setting includes cleanrooms with strict controls on personal items such as hair products and jewelry, cold rooms/freezers at -22°F/-6°C, laboratories, office spaces, warehouses, and tasks requiring working at heights. Use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gowns, gloves, lab coats, and earplugs is often mandatory. The environment may expose you to strong odors from chemicals, lubricants, and biological products.
