Role overview
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Facilities Operative to join the Logistics team within the Waste Team. This Band 2 post is for 37.5 hours per week and focuses on waste handling, cleanliness, and wider site support across the hospital.
The role is an important part of maintaining a safe, tidy, and fully functioning hospital environment. The working pattern will include shifts arranged to support daily waste management needs, and the exact rota will be covered at interview.
Main duties
- Keep shared spaces clear and orderly, including corridors and the main entrance.
- Collect full domestic and clinical waste bins from internal and external waste storage areas and replace them with empty bins.
- Remove used laundry from designated areas and return clean linen.
- Move office furniture and equipment, including support for office relocations between locations.
- Work cooperatively as part of the team and remain flexible to cover different parts of the department when needed.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks assigned by the line manager or senior staff.
- Empty all outdoor waste bins every day.
- Empty brown cardboard bins and use the cardboard baler correctly and safely.
- Support the compaction of waste.
- Collect confidential red bins when full and replace them with empty ones in the designated areas.
- Remove sharps, cytotoxic, anatomical, and pharmaceutical waste from wards and departments, ensuring cytotoxic and pharmaceutical waste is stored securely as instructed.
- Sweep assigned areas when directed by the supervisor or manager.
Health and safety
You will be expected to follow all relevant health and safety policies and procedures, understand your responsibilities under applicable legislation, and report any possible risks to management.
