Job description
Opportunity overview
Beca Applied Technologies works across several specialist areas, with defence and national security as the main focus, alongside aviation, information security, software, and transportation.
This position is located at RNZAF Ohakea in Manawatū and is well suited to someone who has an interest in systems engineering, training systems, and practical work involving the upkeep of electrical and mechanical plant. The role requires a strong commitment to health and safety, confidence in a client-facing environment, and the ability to produce outcomes in a fast-moving setting where deadlines matter. The successful person must be able to obtain an NZDF Defence Site Clearance or National Security Clearance and may need to work occasional evening shifts depending on client needs. The ideal candidate is organised, comfortable working to processes, understands contractual commitments and KPIs, and ideally brings exposure to aviation. Experience from military or training environments would be an advantage.
To qualify for security clearance, applicants must be New Zealand citizens or hold a verified Resident Class Visa, and must also have lived continuously in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States for the previous five years.
About you
You are likely to do well in this role if you have experience maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical systems, and if you have a track record of supporting the delivery of technical or aircrew training. You take health and safety seriously, work comfortably with clients to understand what they need, and can translate technical detail into clear, practical language. You should enjoy working with complex systems, adapting your communication to different audiences, and making complicated information easier to understand. A commitment to an inclusive workplace culture that respects diversity is also important.
