Position Overview
The Phil's Recon Shop, TCWA's newest workshop, is seeking a skilled Sandblaster to join its expanding team. This role involves delivering high-quality surface preparation using abrasive blasting techniques, with a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism within a structured workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare metal components by eliminating rust, paint, scale, dirt, and other contaminants through abrasive blasting equipment.
- Apply protective masking to shield areas not intended for blasting.
- Inspect blasted items to confirm surfaces meet cleanliness and anchor profile standards before coating or painting.
- Operate abrasive blasting machinery safely and efficiently following company and industry protocols.
- Perform routine upkeep, cleaning, and troubleshooting on blast equipment including pots, hoses, nozzles, cabinets, and compressors.
- Coordinate with powder coaters, industrial painters, and quality teams to ensure specifications are met.
- Maintain cleanliness of blast booths and responsibly handle collection, disposal, or recycling of blasting media and hazardous waste as per safety and environmental guidelines.
- Uphold an organized, clean, and safe workspace aligned with workplace health and safety policies.
Candidate Profile
- Possesses relevant trade qualifications or equivalent experience in abrasive blasting or surface preparation industries.
- Proven experience in operating industrial sandblasting or abrasive blasting machinery.
- Strong mechanical skills enabling routine preventive maintenance on blasting devices.
- Knowledgeable of surface preparation standards and coating requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to detect minor surface defects ensuring uniform finish quality.
- Committed to safety, including proper handling of hazardous substances and effective dust control.
- Reliable, positive mindset, capable of working independently or collaboratively within a team.
