Program Overview

The Risk Decision Group (RDG) executes nationwide background investigations aligned with federal standards, including continuous vetting for over 110 government entities.

Role Summary

Peraton is looking for a skilled Background Investigator to join full-time, contributing essential investigative services supporting federal departments’ background investigations nationwide. Priority locations include Las Vegas (NV), Houston (TX), Fort Drum (NY), Chicago area including Des Plaines (IL), Orlando (FL), Montgomery (AL), Asheville (NC), Del Rio (TX), and Wichita Falls (TX).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews of individuals undergoing security clearance checks and their contacts such as references and supervisors.
  • Perform thorough record searches at police, courthouses, educational, financial, medical, or mental health institutions.
  • Generate detailed, precise, and succinct reports on findings.
  • Operate both independently and collaboratively under Field Manager management.
  • Maintain professional communication, focus during field work, punctuality, attendance, and manage extensive paperwork.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality, ethical conduct, and integrity throughout all activities.
  • Follow professional dress standards consistently.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • At least one year of federal background investigation experience.
  • Current active federal background investigation with Tier 5 (T5) adjudication.
  • Minimum of four years general work experience or a bachelor's degree.
  • Active National Training Standards (NTS) certification from New Investigator Training (NIT).
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk long distances, stand for extended durations, and drive safely under adverse or night conditions.
  • Access to a home office conducive to work.
  • Typing proficiency at a recommended speed of 40+ words per minute.
  • Valid driver's license with full-time access to reliable transportation; driving is essential with motor vehicle records subject to review.
  • Required vehicle insurance coverage as per company policy.
  • Competency in simultaneously managing multiple computer programs.
  • Excellent verbal communication for extended conversations and auditory comprehension; precise transcription skills.
  • Strong grammar and writing skills to produce accurate, error-free reporting.
  • Professional conduct with the ability to engage effectively and meet attendance and performance standards.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, ethics, and integrity.
  • Ability to endure extended periods of standing and sitting.

Compensation range is between $26.07 and $46.27 per hour, dependent on experience, education, job scope, and location.
