About MONAD

MONAD is an international platform dedicated to connecting emerging photographic artists with global audiences through exhibitions, editorial work, and creative initiatives. Our mission is to uncover exceptional photography talent before it gains widespread recognition.

Role Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Exhibition Curator experienced in photography to join us remotely on a part-time basis. This role involves evaluating submissions from photographers worldwide, selecting those that demonstrate outstanding technical skills and compelling storytelling to be showcased in MONAD's exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess photographic works submitted for exhibitions, open calls, and contests.
  • Choose artists whose style and vision align with the thematic direction of specific exhibitions.
  • Identify photographers who display promise for long-term artistic growth.
  • Critically evaluate portfolios considering creativity, technical quality, originality, and cohesive presentation.
  • Collaborate with the MONAD team to finalize exhibition selections.
  • Stay informed about trends and upcoming talents in contemporary photography globally.
  • Ensure consistent high standards are maintained across all exhibitions.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven prior experience curating photographic exhibitions.
  • A strong professional background in photography or the photography industry.
  • Proficient in discussing photography at a technical level, including aspects such as composition, lighting, exposure, lens use, editing, printing, and visual storytelling techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to discover and endorse emerging photographers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of diverse contemporary photography genres and styles.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Comfortable executing responsibilities autonomously in a remote work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with galleries, museums, publishers, photography festivals, or creative institutions.
  • Background as a professional photographer, photo editor, or photography educator.
  • Familiarity with both analog and digital photography mediums.

Compensation and Work Conditions

  • Part-time engagement.
  • Fully remote position with flexible scheduling.
  • Hourly compensation set at $25.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal curator is deeply enthusiastic about discovering new photographic talent independently and enjoys exploring new works out of genuine interest. This individual can articulate why an image captivates beyond aesthetic appeal, understanding both the technical choices and the emotional narrative that make a photograph impactful.
