Key purpose of the role

The position is responsible for building and executing preventive maintenance, testing, and system health checks to ensure mechanical assets remain in strong operating condition. It also involves maintaining equipment at peak efficiency, managing annual maintenance contracts, and ensuring engineering activities follow the required schedule and compliance standards.

In addition, the role supports plant capex activities for upgrades and productivity enhancements, handles procurement and technical review of tenders, and works to reduce equipment downtime while improving availability through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.

Core accountabilities

The incumbent will contribute to lowering operating expenditure through improvement initiatives, driving energy management efforts, overseeing stores and spare parts, and planning and executing capex requirements. The role also includes operations and maintenance oversight for plant utilities such as air compressors, ethylene and other compressors, cooling towers, IBR boilers, chillers, nitrogen plants, and related utility systems.

Other responsibilities include ensuring AMC performance and schedule adherence, coordinating shift and manpower deployment, and maintaining compliance with applicable statutory and plant requirements.

Business responsibility areas

• Keep plant operations running smoothly by following the preventive maintenance plan for all mechanical assets, ensuring AMC effectiveness, and preserving detailed maintenance records.
• Support breakdown maintenance efforts by reviewing maintenance plans, identifying root causes, implementing corrective and preventive actions, monitoring daily engineering tasks, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet daily targets.
• Manage statutory and liaison activities by tracking renewal schedules, paying fees on time, completing renewals as planned, maintaining statutory certificates, and documenting any deviations along with risk-mitigation actions.
• Assist in capex planning and execution by preparing budgets with user departments, developing budget proposals, tracking project progress, controlling costs, and reporting plan compliance.
• Handle critical spares by engaging suppliers, negotiating technically and commercially, evaluating and selecting vendors, maintaining minimum inventory levels, and improving spare interchangeability across equipment.
• Oversee contractor and AMC administration by issuing maintenance contracts, reviewing vendor performance, validating measurements for invoice processing, controlling contractor manpower, and ensuring contractor compliance with statutory rules.
• Monitor costs against budget, promote energy-efficiency initiatives, and escalate any overspend with corrective mitigation plans.
• Support ISO 9000, 14000, and 45000 systems through team training, shop-floor implementation of maintenance manuals, periodic HIRA and aspect-impact reviews, process checks for deviations, adherence to safety norms, self-assessment for compliance, and updates to manuals through change management and best-practice adoption.

Performance expectations

Success in this role will be measured through calibration schedule adherence, compliance to maintenance schedules for infrastructure and equipment, timely execution of assigned projects, and consistent alignment with engineering standards, statutory obligations, and APL quality and EHS requirements.
