Role Overview
The Executive Director serves as Temple Sinai's chief operating officer, responsible for managing daily operations and executing the strategic vision of the congregation. Collaborating closely with the Board of Trustees, clergy, staff, and volunteers, the Director provides leadership in operations, financial oversight, human resources, technology, and facilities management. This role requires both hands-on involvement and team leadership to ensure the temple meets its mission and long-term goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Optimize organizational processes and champion technological advancements while delivering strong leadership across teams.
- Supervise and support staff development to build a high-performing, collaborative culture emphasizing professional growth.
- Manage daily operations including administration, programming, resources, and oversight of the Synagogue and Early Childhood Education Center.
- Direct technology infrastructure, security measures, and maintain data integrity.
- Lead financial planning with senior leadership and board collaboration, managing budgets, expenses, bookkeeping, payroll, and reports.
- Support fundraising initiatives administratively.
- Oversee facility management including vendor coordination, capital projects, maintenance, and security operations.
- Develop and enforce security policies, coordinate with enforcement agencies and security contractors.
- Build and nurture relationships with lay leaders, volunteers, board members, and community partners to enhance engagement and support.
- Develop communication strategies, manage marketing efforts including website and social media, and ensure transparent board communications.
- Engage with peer organizations to integrate best practices and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is essential.
- Minimum 5 years of senior leadership in nonprofit or community-focused organizations, preferably with religious or cultural institutions.
- Strong operational, organizational, and financial management abilities including budgeting and resource allocation.
- Experienced in managing staff productivity, vendor relations, and large-scale event planning and execution.
- Proficient with technology platforms such as ShulCloud, Microsoft Teams/Office suite, donor and event management software, and social media tools.
- Exemplary communication and organizational skills, with an independent, self-driven work style.
- Interpersonal skills suitable for engaging a diverse congregation across multiple generations and traditions.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Jewish customs, rituals, and holidays is preferred.
Working Schedule
This is a full-time role based onsite with typical working days from Sunday through Monday and Wednesday through Friday, with Tuesday and Saturday off. The position includes occasional evening meetings and flexibility to manage work hours.
