Role Summary

The Executive Director of Technology Operations leads the day-to-day management, governance, and delivery of the organization’s technology function. This position ensures that systems, infrastructure, development practices, and operational workflows stay aligned with business goals while being delivered efficiently, securely, and at scale.

This leader acts as the link between technology strategy and execution, with responsibility for operational excellence, technology governance, digital transformation, and collaboration across functions to support growth and innovation.

Technology Operations Strategy and Delivery

  • Create and roll out technology operations plans that support company-wide and technology objectives.
  • Convert technology roadmaps into practical operating plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Improve execution across software development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud operations, and IT service delivery.
  • Set up governance structures that help technology initiatives run effectively.

Program, Portfolio, and Budget Oversight

  • Direct the planning, execution, and completion of enterprise technology projects and programs.
  • Manage technology portfolios, budgets, resources, and priorities to deliver the greatest business impact.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
  • Build executive dashboards and reporting tools that give leadership visibility into technology performance.

Process Improvement and Governance

  • Define, document, and standardize operational technology policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Apply proven practices across SDLC, DevOps, ITSM, Agile, and project management.
  • Improve efficiency through automation and workflow refinement.
  • Maintain adherence to internal controls, governance standards, and regulatory obligations.

Infrastructure, Cloud, and Service Operations

  • Lead oversight of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, networks, and support services.
  • Maintain high standards for availability, scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Strengthen service delivery through monitoring, incident handling, and root-cause resolution.
  • Guide business continuity, disaster recovery, and resilience planning.

Cybersecurity, Risk, and Compliance

  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to protect systems, applications, and data.
  • Identify, assess, and reduce operational technology risks.
  • Ensure alignment with security frameworks, industry regulations, and corporate governance rules.
  • Put in place escalation and risk management procedures for major technology issues.

Analytics and Performance Management

  • Define and track KPIs, SLAs, and other operational metrics for technology teams.
  • Use data analysis to improve efficiency and guide decisions.
  • Create performance reporting frameworks for executive review.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts based on insights and business priorities.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, IT, finance, HR, and business stakeholders to keep technology operations aligned with priorities.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between technical and non-technical groups.
  • Support enterprise transformation efforts and technology-enabled business expansion.
  • Coordinate effectively across global technology teams.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Build, manage, and inspire high-performing technology operations teams.
  • Strengthen leadership capability through succession planning and talent development.
  • Encourage accountability, innovation, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote engagement and collaboration across the technology organization.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.

The ideal candidate should bring at least 18 years of experience in technology operations, IT management, engineering operations, or similar fields, including 8+ years in senior leadership positions. Strong experience with large-scale technology organizations, digital transformation programs, enterprise operations, software development operations, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology governance is expected. Experience in multinational companies or fast-growing, technology-led organizations is preferred.
