Job description
Role overview
The Executive Director of Technology Operations will lead the day-to-day and strategic running of the company’s technology function. This position is accountable for making sure systems, infrastructure, development operations, governance, and delivery processes stay tightly connected to business goals and operate efficiently, securely, and at scale.
The role acts as the link between technology strategy and execution, with ownership of operational discipline, technology governance, digital transformation, and collaboration across teams to support growth and innovation.
Technology operations strategy and execution
You will shape and execute technology operations plans that support both business and technology priorities. This includes turning technology roadmaps into concrete operating plans, setting measurable outcomes, and improving performance across software development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud operations, and IT service delivery. You will also put in place governance structures that help initiatives run effectively.
Program and portfolio management
This role covers leadership of enterprise technology programs and projects from planning through delivery. You will oversee portfolios, budgets, resources, and priorities to ensure the organization gets the highest possible business value. A key part of the role is tracking progress through executive-level dashboards and reporting tools.
Process optimization and governance
You will define, document, and standardize operating procedures, policies, and technology workflows. The role requires applying best practices across SDLC, DevOps, IT service management, Agile, and project management. You will also look for ways to automate processes, improve efficiency, and maintain compliance with internal controls, governance expectations, and regulatory standards.
Infrastructure, cloud, and service operations
The position includes oversight of enterprise infrastructure, cloud environments, networks, and support services. You will be responsible for high availability, scalability, reliability, and strong performance. You will also drive monitoring, incident response, problem management, business continuity, disaster recovery, and broader operational resilience efforts.
Cybersecurity, risk, and compliance
You will work closely with cybersecurity teams to protect systems, applications, and data. The role involves identifying operational technology risks, putting mitigation measures in place, and ensuring alignment with security frameworks, regulations, and corporate governance requirements. Clear escalation and risk-response processes are also part of the responsibility.
Data, analytics, and performance management
You will define and track KPIs, SLAs, and other operational performance measures for technology operations. The role requires using analytics to improve efficiency and support decisions, while also building reporting frameworks for executive stakeholders. Continuous improvement efforts will be guided by operational data and evolving business needs.
Cross-functional collaboration and business alignment
This leadership role involves partnering with product, engineering, IT, finance, HR, and business leaders to keep technology operations aligned with organizational priorities. You will help translate between technical and non-technical teams, support transformation programs, and ensure coordination across distributed global technology groups.
Leadership and organizational development
You will lead and develop high-performing technology operations teams, strengthen leadership capability, plan for succession, and support talent growth. The role also calls for building a culture centered on accountability, innovation, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and strong employee engagement.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
Experience
The role typically requires 18+ years of experience in technology operations, IT management, engineering operations, or a related area, including at least 8+ years in senior leadership positions. Strong experience in managing large-scale technology organizations, digital transformation efforts, and enterprise operations is expected. A solid background in software development operations, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology governance is also important. Experience in multinational corporations or fast-growing technology-led organizations is preferred.
